Revealing non-covalent interactions that drive the efficiency of organic reactions.

Abstract: Prediction of new chemical reactions is often guided by intuition based on fundamental understanding of reactivity. However, while electronic aspects are usually intuitive, the intricate non-covalent interactions (NCI) that govern the efficiency of many chemical processes are not easily identified in the molecular structures of substrates and/or catalysts. In this seminar, we outline how NCIs may be exploited for the interrogation of reaction mechanisms and design of improved catalysts for organic reactions.
